$65,000 Won for Injured Man in Lawsuit After Hotel's Negligence
August 21, 2018
No matter how vigilant you are, accidents can still happen. My client learned that firsthand while he was staying at a hotel on a business trip. After a long day of work, he returned to his room. Some of the outside lights were not working properly, so he took extra care as he attempted to reenter the building. Unfortunately, in addition to the hotel’s inadequate attention to their lighting, they also failed to clear away luggage from a doorway, creating a hazard. When my client walked inside and began ascending the staircase, he tripped over this piece of luggage, hurting himself and breaking his glasses. He was taken to the emergency room and after his release, continued receiving orthopedic treatment, eventually needing surgery and later, physical therapy. The hotel admitted that it had no staff who were responsible for cleaning and maintenance working that night, but denied liability for what happened to my client. Seeing the obvious injustice in this, I was happy to take on this case. After multiple depositions from the hotel employees, I proved that the institution should have been aware of the obstructive luggage, and it was their own failure to keep their premises safe that was the cause of my client’s injuries.
